Kentucky Derby...Meysa Style

While at the lovely cider farm this last week my girls found the jackpot. That is the jackpot in terms of horses!! Ok, not really the jackpot, because that would be a REAL LIVE horse munching on carrots in our backyard. But this is the closest thing to a jackpot these girls are going to get!! TWO (real important so as to not incite WW3) spring loaded horses, or whatever you call them. They could have ridden on these things for hours but thankfully there were other kids there that wanted a turn so we had to limit their time. Meysa instantly got on and off she went. She was riding like a jockey in the Kentucky Derby. She was making the sound effects and hunkering down in her saddle.
Here she is coming around turn #1, getting into a nice groove and flipping dirt in the other horses' faces.
Getting a little air off the saddle is always good. Means you are in a good rhythm right?!!
Woooooo, I think Meysa just won the race. She was so fun to watch. This girl would LOVE, and I mean LOVE with her last dying breath a horse all her own. Maybe one day we can do that but darnit for right now this is as close as she is going to get.

Show offs!! Riding without hands is only for professionals, which of course these two chickas are!!

Lauryn loves the horses almost as much as Meysa. She loves doing what big sis is doing so naturally she would love horses too. She had a horse just her size to race with, and the race between the two was neck and neck.

As I type this Lauryn is watching Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron. To which she is romping on my couches and making horse sounds as loud as can be!! Oh yeah and the sound track is what is in my CD player in the car!! I think we are on horse overload!!

Cider Time

Yesterday we had no school for the kiddos so our ward playgroup planned a little outing to a local cider farm. It happened to be a wonderful day, a little chilly but at least the sun was making an appearance. Besides a cider mill they have animals for petting and feeding and pumpkins for later in the month. They also sell homemade pies, their cider, homemade donuts and breads, plus some more stuff too. The kids loved getting out and looking at the animals. It was like they had never seen a chicken before, even though they have. I love a child's excitement for the little things. Meysa's favorite was a little baby goat. She kept going back to it and swooning over it. We splurged and got fresh homemade donuts and let the kids run wild for a few hours. It was a good day had by all.
I really think I want this sign for my front door. It would apply to our home 97% of the time. The other 3% is when we are asleep.
They have these coin operated horses that of course my girls loved riding on. They were out of order but that didn't stop them from racing in the Kentucky Derby. I have a post to do about some real rocking horses that they found. There are too many pictures so it needs a post all it's own.
Down at the end of the property there are a few little toys for the kids to play on. Ayden was overjoyed to see the tether ball. He has gotten into playing this at school I guess and so he was giving his friend a lesson on the ins and outs of the game. His cast works pretty well for him when he wants to serve!!
After about 30 pictures trying to get all of the kids to look at the camera we kinda had some success. I wish Ayden wasn't cut off like he is but oh well. They are looking at the camera and mostly smiling!! It was a good Friday!

About that thumb....

So about that thumb...well we had our repeat films done on Tuesday. Ayden's thumb was still tender and it still hurt in the same spot (middle-between joints) and so the Dr. ordered some new films. Dr. B said he would be back in touch with me the next day when he got the radiology report. Well the radiologist beat him to the punch. I got a call from the radiologist Wed. morning saying that Ayden's thumb was indeed broken (a slight fracture) and it would need to be casted. Dr. B called a little while after that saying that yes it was broken but we could just continue to splint it and it would be fine. Well the peds office called about 45 minutes later stating that Dr. B consulted with a Orthopaedic Dr. and they wanted it to be casted and that I needed to walk in that afternoon to the cast clinic. Are you confused and dizzy yet? I am not sure which plan we are on anymore....D, E, F?!! Anyway, luckily it was early release and so I picked Ayden up from school and headed up to the base. I was about ready to get on the freeway and the peds clinic called once again to say that I didn't need to come in right now but to come in at 8am the next morning (today) to the cast clinic and they would see us then. I'm just glad that they caught me before I actually got on the freeway. So bright (or not so bright) and early this morning we headed up to the cast clinic to see an Orthopaedic Dr. and then have Ayden's thumb finally put into a cast!!! The Ortho PA looked at Ayden's thumb and rechecked his films and decided for sure that it needed to be casted. The break in his thumb was not displaced or anything but he felt for an active 8 yr. old boy to be careful with a broken thumb in a splint was a little too much to ask. So he will have his cast on for just two weeks and then hopefully it will have had enough of a chance to heal up. Playing mummy a little early!!
It took a mere 10 minutes for them to put on the cast.

All done!! Hopefully the only post you will see in the future about this particular thumb will be getting the cast off!! Boy was that whole ordeal a nightmare. I for one am glad to see it casted and on it's way to healing!!

Brothers

Saturday was a good day to be outside. As it turns out it was the last nice, warm day of the summer. Today we have wind, rain and it is cold. So long summer, Hello Fall. We took advantage of the nice day and washed our cars and Ryan cleaned out the garage. Wyatt so badly wanted to be outside with us but he isn't to be trusted really. He likes to play chicken with the cars. Ayden became his babysitter and he decided to put him in the wagon and take him for a ride. Wyatt enjoyed himself especially when Ayden was going FAST!!
Even though there is 7 years between Ayden and Wyatt I can already tell they are going to be good buds. The only other words besides Mama and Dada that Wyatt can say is Ayden. He has been saying it for months. Ayden can get Wyatt to laugh like nobody's business, and Wyatt likes to go to bed with Ayden in his room with him.

"Brothers don't shake hands, brothers gotta hug!!" Yeah, not so much for Wyatt. Even though Ayden ran him up and down the block like a 100 times, he wants nothing to do with the PDA.
"Love you too bud, but keep it at arms length would ya!!"

"A man has to have his personal space ya know!!"

The Spider Tree

We woke up to a foggy morning today. I think fall is finally here. Even though the sun is shining now it is still a little on the brisk side of the thermostat. On the way home from school this morning my friend and I passed by this tree and we saw a large spider web. Due to the moisture in the air the web was very easy to see since there were water droplets all over it. I thought to myself that would be a cool picture. We kept walking and as I looked back at the tree I saw another web, and then another, and yet another. The tree was covered by spider webs. I went home got my camera and came back to take some pictures (the tree is only a block from my house). I took pictures of the webs that I could see but there were many more than what I captured. The tree looks so unsuspecting. But on a closer look you find these really cool webs.
